Sledding in Greater Lafayette

The Best Sledding Spots in Greater Lafayette

Sledding in Greater Lafayette

What’s better than a snow day? Getting OUT IN THE SNOW! And while our downhill skiing options are hours away in Michigan, we do have some great sledding hills around Greater Lafayette. So once there’s some white powder on the ground, you’ll know exactly where to head with the kids (or without—no judgment here).

Slayter Hill

Slayter Hill is located at Purdue University in West Lafayette. Commonly an outdoor amphitheater, Slayter Center is used as a fresh-air venue in the spring, summer, and fall. But when the first measurable snowfall hits, LOOK OUT! College students emerge (sledding on things only engineering students could dream up!) and Slayter becomes an epic sledding hill!

Kingston Hill

Kingston Hill in West Lafayette is another family favorite. Hidden behind the old Happy Hollow School, it’s tucked away with the bonus of a parking lot right at the bottom of the hill! There’s plenty of room to head down the hill while avoiding the tennis courts or pool! You can pick up some serious speed on this steep hill, especially once it starts developing ice.

West Lafayette Country Club

The West Lafayette Country Club is where I grew up sledding! As a kid, my favorite spot was “the saucer,” which allows you to fly down one side and almost up another, letting you come to rest at the bottom center. The hill was less intimidating as I grew up, but boy, did I have fun there!

Murdock Park

Murdock Park in Lafayette is a blast! The sled run is a favorite wintertime attraction! Katy’s Cabin provides sled rentals AND hot chocolate! Plus, when the weather is cold enough, the City of Lafayette makes snow for this hill with their snow machine.

Wea Ridge Elementary School

Wea Ridge Elementary School in Lafayette is a favorite spot for south-siders. The hill near the elementary school goes into a valley area, so it’s relatively safe from non-sledding activities.

Do you have any favorite sledding spots in Greater Lafayette? Where are you going to be heading this year once we have some white stuff? Leave me a quick comment!
